Exhaust Notes: Car Reviews
Exhaust Notes is a car review series by ProClip USA. We specialize in custom dashboard mounts to dock the latest smartphones and tablets. ProClip USA products are designed specifically for the make, model and year of your car, so we spend A LOT of time in cars. Exhaust Notes lets me take some time to take some of the most popular vehicles out for a test drive to get a feel for what makes them so popular. For this episode, I got to hang out with Ben from Ben’s Car Blog to take his 2018 Subaru WRX for a drive.
With roots in rally-inspired performance vehicles, Subaru has created a cultural movement in their performance cars. When Subaru brought the WRX over in 2002, the adrenaline-filled world of modified, turbocharged all-wheel drive vehicles has exploded into the scene that it is today. The distinct rumble of a Subaru can be picked up by an enthusiast from what seems like a mile away.
What’s Under the Hood
However, this WRX doesn’t rumble quite like the WRXs from the past. In 2015, Subaru made the decision to use the new FA20 direct-injected 2.0L engine instead of the older 2.5L EJ. The 2.0 is still a boxer engine and includes a broader power band and more low-end torque. The FA20 pumps out 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.
The Exhaust Notes
The Subaru WRX is a perfect daily driver. It has the perfect amount of peppiness that makes a car fun to drive. Ben described the car as a Swiss army knife that can get him through any driving situation.
Although the 2018 WRX didn’t have that signature Subaru rumble that the older models have, it was still a blast to drive a fun, sporty car that can make it through just about anything. I can’t thank Ben enough for letting me drive his car. Be sure to check out and support his blog!
